InnoGames Game Jam 6 – The biggest and best yet!

Wow, what a weekend! In the past, the InnoGames Game Jams were always great events. This one last weekend, though, will be remembered for a long time. Over 120 participants, far more than ever before, made it to one of the biggest game jams you can find in Germany.

Sound designer

Following the motto “ridiculous”, 24 teams were created to face the challenge of developing a complete new game within 48 hours. After discussing ideas through a brainstorming session on Friday, all participants started with the actual programming. Graphic artists, sound designers and developers worked together and first prototypes were created quickly. Just before the end of the countdown on Sunday, it became quite hectic in many teams. Last bugs had to be eradicated in order to finally present a running version of the game.

Hard working teams

Once started with the presentation of the games, lots of jaws dropped. It’s always awesome to see how high the quality of the games created in such a short time period can be. From strategy pc games to action packed apps, the spectrum of games was just incredible.

Second place was given to the game „Das Amt“ (play online), and the third place on the podium went to the App „Walking Heads“ (watch mobile gameplay). In total, 24 brilliant games were developed during the event, and we’re proud of each one.

In any case, we had a lot of fun and we hope to see you all on the next InnoGames Game Jam!

Game Jam

A Game Jam unites developers, graphic artists, game designers or newcomers from different working areas and challenges them to develop a completely new game. Biggest challenge: The lack of time. You have only 48 hours for the complete development process – after that period of time, your game has to be finished.

Besides the rooms that we offer you, we will also care of your stamina. Next to the traditional pizza, we provide lots of snacks and drinks, including tons of energy drink, so you can turn the night into day! In case you want to sleep, you should bring you own sleeping bag. The same applies for your needed hardware.

Game Jam V WinnerThemes search

As every Jam has a theme, you are invited to suggest one. Our last themes were: “Lost”, “Space”, “Survival”, “black / white”, “heartbeat” (global game jam) or “violence”. Other Game Jams had, for example, themes like: “you only get one”, “10 seconds”, “minimalism”, “Evolution”.

We are looking forward to your email and hopefully to see you soon.

A weekend full of creativity – InnoGames Game Jam VI is finished

Computer games are extremely complex entities in which its development needs big teams, a lot of money and even more time. At least that’s the general opinion when it comes to this topic, right? Well, our regular InnoGames Game Jam proves the opposite. This weekend, we again united people from various areas and put their creative minds to a severe test.

Creating computergames requires full attention

The response this time was as great as ever! Within 48 hours, about 80 participants from all parts of Germany gathered in our headquarters in Hamburg to create new games under the given theme „Violence”. The teams chose different approaches for this special topic, most of them were over the top and ironic. Starting on Friday afternoon, many teams spent the first hours thinking about setting, genre and platform. After clearing that up, the whole Saturday was then all about the actual game development and graphic creation. Whether programmers, sound designers or graphic designers, everyone was fully concentrated and motivated to create the best game ever in that short amount of time.

testing the game

Just before the end of the countdown on Sunday, it became quite hectic in many teams. Last bugs had to be eradicated in order to finally present a running version of the game. No one would have thought that 48 hours could be so short! And yet 18 games all in all were presented on late Sunday afternoon. Games for all platforms and from genres were present: from Jump ‚N‘ Run and classic 2D shooters, to a quartet alternative for mobile phones. Not an easy task for the jury to select the best three games, but in the end, the winners were clear:

First place in the InnoGames Game Jam VI goes out to mobile game „Papzilla“ in which you have to destroy a carefully designed paper-town. A gameplay video for the really great game can be found here.

Second place was given to the game „Garden Party“, in which you take the role of a lawn mower. The third place on the podium went to the game „diagnosis Woilenz“, a fun 2D shooter.

A big thank you goes out to all the participants and organizers for the great weekend! By the way, an even more detailed report on InnoGames Game Jam VI, including a cool video will be up on here soon, so stay tuned!

It’s time again! – InnoGames invites you to Game Jam

Finally, one of my favorite events is back up: The InnoGames Game Jam! For the sixth time we gather professionals and beginners of game development and have them create completely new games within 48 hours. Divided into teams, everyone who has the desire to create games is invited: from game designers to graphic artists, sound specialists and programmers.

There are no technical limitations to what is possible – You decide which platform you want to program or what language you use for it. The only requirement is your software must free to use and freely available. During our past Game Jams we already had a lot of cool games emerging. The winners of the fourth Game Jam created the entertaining Jump & Run „Hans and Jamal“, which you can try for yourself here. Last Game gave birth to the Tower offense strategy game “Frankenstein”.

Now you wonder where the whole event is to take place? As with the last Game Jams, we will once again open the hallowed halls of our Hamburg office and sponsor with greasy food and lots of energy drinks. The only thing you need is your hardware, lots of creative ideas and of course perseverance, because you will hardly sleep!

The Game Jam will take place between June 21 and 23: Gotten interested? Then just send us a mail to with a short introduction of yourself and an explanation why exactly you would like to participate in the Game Jam. We look forward to your applications!

InnoGames connects creatives all over the world! We will be part of the Global Game Jam 2013!

You are creative, you have dozens of great ideas, and you want to create an amazing new game? No problem! From the 25th to the 27th of January 2013, the Global Game Jam will take place in over 50 countries around the world – InnoGames holds up the flag of Hamburg and invites you to be part of our creative team!

Like at our last Game Jams, we will spend 48 hours developing a completely new game and competing with many other creatives around the world. Once again, we will have a mix of internal and external developers, graphic artists and game designers working together on their ideas of a new game. And of course we will provide you with crates of energy drinks and food.
Gotten interested? To apply, just write us an email to and tell us who you are, what developing knowledge you have and why you want to join.

Hope to see you there!

InnoGames Game Jam IV

On September 14-16, the InnoGames Game Jam held its fourth edition. During three days full of creative ideas, little sleep and even more energy drinks, a mix of internal and external developers, graphic designers and game designers tinkered together at their game ideas.

After 48 hours, the 60 participants were able to present plenty of cool games – all based on the chosen theme of black and white. The winners of the fourth InnoGames Game Jams are Pascal, Tim, Alexander and Tobias with their game „Hans and Jamal“, which is a cool black and white Jump & Run. You can play the game here and watch the gameplay video on youtube.

Game Jam initiator Michael Indyk is already planning the next version of the event and wants to share some personal insights with you:

For me a Game Jam is a great opportunity to meet people who think that game development is more than a job – people who are full of vigor, motivation and ideas. I think when such people meet others with the same love, magical things can happen. It is unbelievable how much potential such events can develop. Put one person full of ideas into a team and he or she will inspire everyone. Put two people of this type into a team and you will get an explosion of creativity – the ideas will quadruple themselves. This is exactly the reason why I like to organize the Game Jam.

What´s up next?

The InnoGames Game Jam is still very young. There are many details which can be optimized in the future. The feedback is very positive every time, but for me being the organizer, there will be always some things which can be done in another way; For example, how to order the enormous amount of food, clean my presentation of all the “uuums” and “aahhs” or to find the perfect starting time. That’s why the InnoGames Game Jam will be an event which is always in change, to find the best solution possible for everyone. I am excited to see what the optimum solution will look like.

What has InnoGames got to do with it?

First, InnoGames eased our cravings for delicious food (the 1703 bucks were well spent, thanks!). But the most important reason, in my eyes, for this kind of event, is to present InnoGames as the company which it really is: a place, where a backend developer like me is able to work on an idea like this and gets all the support he can dream of. A place where every Friday means “InnoDay” – where you have time to talk with your colleagues about new ideas and work on your own projects with people from other teams. For example I used one of these days to install a motion sensor inside the soccer table room and link it to our LAN, so my colleagues don´t have to run down the stairs to check if the room is available.

I hope I was able to give you another perspective on this event. If you have questions about or feedback on the InnoGames Game Jam, feel free to send an email to I will answer as fast as possible.

4th InnoGames Game Jam: Developing Games in 48 Hours

Have you ever wondered what a Game Jam is all about and what you can do there? From the 14th to the 16th of September, you can find out for yourself at our 4th InnoGames Game Jam. Together with developers, graphic artists and game designers, you will face the challenge of developing a game about a given topic in only 48 hours. What type of game will be totally up to you: Do you want to create a jump & run? Go for it! Are you more into action games? Also fine! Have you ever tried developing a pure text adventure? Now is the perfect time! The participants of the last InnoGames Game Jam created 14 games with a “survival” theme. However, a Game Jam is not only about developing, designing and coding nonstop for 48 hours. Having fun together and exchanging with others is also a part of a Game Jam, of course, as well as lots of energy drinks 😉 You can read in our corporate blog what it was like to take part in our 3rd InnoGames Game Jam.

The 4th InnoGames Game Jam will again take place at our Hamburg offices. Besides InnoGames employees, the event is also open for external guests. Of course, we provide attendees with free food and drinks. Additionally, we have some cozy sleeping places in our office for you and your sleeping bags. Therefore, all you need to bring is a personal computer and some motivation to create games. Are you interested? Just send a mail to and tell us a bit about yourself and why you want to take part.
